BURLINGTON, NC - Shenandoah University continued its run through the USA South Conference softball Tournament with an 11-6 victory Saturday morning over Peace.
Shenandoah (20-16-1) advances to a 2 p.m. game against the Christopher Newport/Meredith loser by winning the elimination game over Peace (20-22).
SU scored all of its runs in the third inning, getting six hits off of PC pitchers Ashley Stansbury and Kendra Yearick while also benefitting from two crucial PC errors.
The two miscues led to the final three runs being unearned and gave the Hornets all of the offense they would need to secure the win.
Jolisa Jones, Ashley Plaugher, Shatora Lane, Lauren McCabe, Denise Mitchell, Cat Pruiett and Renoula Jones all had RBI's in the frame with Pruiett knocking in two with a single to center.
Now staked to a comfortable lead, SU coach Marlena Kotynski removed starting pitcher Brooke Over in favor of freshman Amanda Litwin (10-8) and then Ashley Stegemiller.
Over struck out five of the six hitters she faced in 2.0 innings while Litwin allowed one hit in her only inning of work.
T-shirt Critical Purple - Denver Broncos Stegemiller gave up six runs, including a three-run HR to Lindsey Moore, but earned the save by pitching the final 4.0 innings of the win.
Stansbury (8-11) took the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. She had nine strikeouts, including the first six hitters she faced.
Lane led the victors with three hits and Amanda Rothwell was 2 for 3 for PC.
